Patient Safety and Full Compliance are Top Priorities at Advanced Menstrual Care Center
Convenient, High Level Disinfection (HLD) with trophon®2 has simplified Dr. Tucker’s workflow and added a level of protection he hasn’t had before. Soaking ultrasound probes outside of the patient care area was logistically difficult, time-consuming and involved multiple steps and quality control measures. With trophon2, point-of-care probe reprocessing eliminates the need to transport the probes to a centralized area, reducing the risk of recontamination.
Diminishing Risk of Ultrasound Probe Cross Infection
High quality, along with safe and affordable solutions were essential to Dr. Steven W. Tucker as he set up his solo private practice, Advanced Menstrual Care Center, in Towson, Maryland. He knew there would be risks and trade-offs to be managed, but safety was not something Dr. Tucker was willing to compromise. Primarily, he was concerned about high-risk infectious viruses that may persist on ultrasound probes even after 24 hours of soaking in disinfection and sterilization chemicals.
Dr. Tucker helps his patients by delivering rapid relief right in the office. He offers his patients benefits and resources along with advanced diagnostic tools they may not find elsewhere. To provide solutions for fast control of bleeding in an office setting, for example, Dr. Tucker says the ultrasound system is critical for diagnosing and treating these problems.
“If I’m going to provide ultrasound to my patients, I have to do it in the safest way possible,” Dr. Tucker explains. Equally as important was safety for his staff and the environment. Dr. Tucker didn’t want his staff working around toxic fumes from chemicals all day or worrying about safe chemical disposal.
He researched probe sterilization, disinfection and cover failure rates and learned these methods are not 100 percent fail-proof, so he began looking for other solutions. An internet search led him to Nanosonics and trophon2.
“I was pleased and reassured to learn that by using trophon technology in the same room in which I am performing ultrasound exams, I no longer needed to be concerned about unknowingly contributing to the transmission of cross infections,” says Dr. Tucker.
“I inform patients of the potential of infectious disease transmission via ultrasound probes and how using the trophon2 system in my practice helps reduce this risk substantially.”

Traceability Back to Patient; Ease-of-use
The trophon2 addresses Dr. Tucker’s regulatory and legal needs as well. He can easily create accurate digital records and access all disinfection reports, which is critical in the event of an infection outbreak. He also chose the printer as an add-on device because it provides an audit trail, helping him to satisfy his regulatory and audit requirements.
“It’s important for me to be able to provide high-quality ultrasound capabilities to my patients,” he says. “This, coupled with my commitment to quality and safety, necessitates that I use trophon2, as it is the only option there is for complete patient safety and full compliance.”
In addition, Dr. Tucker likes the compact size of the trophon2 because it fits in his exam rooms in a wide range of locations - on a bench, on a mobile cart or a wall mount. “When the trophon2 arrived, the set up was extremely easy, and the machine could not be any simpler to use,” he says. He’s also happy with the system’s compatibility with so many different ultrasound transducers.
Creative Financing Options
After Dr. Tucker decided to incorporate trophon2 into his new practice, he contacted Nanosonics to discuss creative financing options. As a result of this call, he learned that instead of purchasing trophon2, he could rent the system.
“I was so excited to be able to rent the machine as opposed to dealing with the upfront cost,” he says. “trophon2 satisfies my need for cost-effectiveness and confidence in safety for my patients, so I was able to commit to moving forward immediately. Within two weeks, the trophon2 system was installed in my practice and ready for use starting with my very first patient.”
